DSC_1111Ron Tinsley is a brand consultant, graphic designer and professor with 20+ years of experience in visual communications. He has a BFA in Graphic Design from The University of the Arts and a MA in Urban Studies from Eastern University. Growing up in North Philadelphia, Ron developed his artistic skills through drawing on the street. He loved to tell stories, some true…and some fabricated. With the help of a local church and his mother’s example, he was the first in his family to graduate from college.

Fascinated with how people respond to narratives, he eventually realized the power of his own. As Ron traveled the world as an ambassador and creative professional, he has seen first-hand the art of storytelling in diverse cultures: The Oromo in Ethiopia, the Dinka of Sudan, The Luo in Kenya, grandmothers in South Korea and even African American culture. Capturing imaginations through words and images is powerful and this is why he is a designer.

Ron has lectured and taught undergraduate/graduate classes at Eastern University, Temple University and Camden Community College.

Using branding and design principles, Ron helps nonprofits, businesses and those brave enough to believe in change to find the stories that resonate with their audience. Research and design bring these stories to life. View one of his case studies.

So, how does branding and design intersect with life?

For the last 25 years, Ron has used the principles in branding and design to helping urban youth uncover the important truths in their own stories. Nonprofits call on him to function in advisory and teaching roles for small businesses, teachers, youth and youthworkers. Visit his blog to see what he is up to. For lighter fare, check out his biographical cartoon series based on his childhood and life experiences.
